Are Pentax Digital SLRs good cameras?

by admin

I'm thinking about getting an slr but i can't afford a canon or nikon are pentax's good slrs too? because i know they're not as expensive as those

Yes, they are excellent cameras and also have excellent lenses. Go to http://dpreview.com and compare the different dslr cameras, in your price range. Read the reviews. Then go to a real camera store, not Best Buy or Wal Mart, and handle the different cameras, try them with various lenses, and buy the one which fits you best.

  1. The Pentax K10D and K20D have gotten good reviews. Pentax has their version of Image Stabilization in the camera body so every lens you use will have that benefit. You can also use every Pentax K-mount manual focus and auto focus lens made since 1975 with a Pentax DSLR.

You can probably find better prices on the K10D since its "only" 10 megapixel and the K20D is 14.6 megapixel. 10mp will serve you very well so save your money.

  3. Pentax is a fine camera. They have been making cameras since before the digital age. You may want to consider Olympus as well, that's what I use. Olympus tends to be considered a better value because they are less expensive as well. Olympus has been making cameras for decades and the images are excellent. 4. I have used Pentax SLRs since 1975 and currently use two DSLRs an *istDS and a K10D.

I still have my original KX Pentax SLR.

All three you mention are all good cameras but Pentax offer good value for money and excellent image quality.

One big advantage is that Pentax DSLRS now come with shake reduction in the camera body. This means you do not have to pay extra for image stabilization (IS) or Vibration Reduction (VR) when buying a new lens.

I can now use my original 55mm SLR lens from 1975 with the benefit of shake reduction on my latest Pentax DSLR.

  5. YES!

    Now, for my 2 cents…..

In the long run, the bang for the buck in the camera body will be beat in the bang for the buck in the lens category. Canon glass has a tendency to be less expensive than Olympus, Nikon, and Pentax so feeding the need for more photography gear (in my case my addiction to new lenses) can be a bit easier on you budget. If you are willing to hunt for those older Pentax lenses, you will have a great time with awesome quality bargain equipment. I just wish my old FD lens worked on my EOS bodies.

Once again, Pentax glass is quite possibly the best on the market with a close second by Canon and Nikon. Zuiko (Olympus) Glass is also top notch although IMO a bit too expensive when the build quality is compared to that of Canon.

  6. Yes, they are just as good and in some ways better. Canon & Nikon are like BMW's, you pay for the nice ornament on the hood and the fact you can walk around and say you own one. In the end it means nothing, it's the photographer that takes the photo, not the camera. Buy the one that's best for you in your price range.
