How much do the lens cost, and which lens should I buy if I do get it?
I bought one, and I think it's worth it. I like the kit lens that comes with it: 18 - 55mm.
I also bought a 70 - 300 4.5 - 5.6 for $160 at B&H. It's not bad for such an inexpensive camera.
I recently bought the 28 - 135 USM Image Stabilized lens for about $400. That's the lens I primarily use now.

If you want the potential for great pictures with auto controls to make it easy AND manual controls to aid in getting the perfect shot, the answer is an unqualified YES!! I have two canon DSLRs and love both. The flexibility to choose lenses, the creative control of manual settings and the ability to get great candid shots with the auto controls is great. If you have the money, I'd also recommend looking at the new 5D or 30D from Canon as well - great cameras!

I've got the same camera and it's absolutely worth it. I got the 'kit' with the 18-55mm lens, which is actually an excellent lens. I also purchased the 75-300mm lens and the 28-90mm lens so that all bases were covered. All of this should run you a little over a thousand. I make a little money from photography (very little) so the money wasnt that much of an issue for me.

Definitely!!! I bought the Nikon D70 kit, and added lenses as I gained experience and knew what I needed. I'm not familiar with the Rebel, however, usually the lens which comes with a kit is a versatile lens. Wait to buy anymore lenses until you have experience a good idea of the type of photography which you will be doing, which will greatly affect your lens choice. Get ready to have fun, because DSLR's can take one from beginner to advanced and take great photos along the way!!!!
