I'm trying to buy a camera, and have been looking around for quite some time. I saw a package deal on one of Canon's digital SLRs. It says it will come with 2 USM Lenses. The question I have is USM and IS (Image stabilizer) the same thing? Will a USM Lens have the image stabalizing feauture that the IS has? I thank you in advance for your time and effort!

No, they are not the same, USM is UltraSonic Motor for the focusing system for a faster and quieter focus on AF the IS is Image Stabilizer (You are correct) and that helps you w/ aperature settings and shutter speeds (you can run up to 3 f-stops faster w/ it). That is why you see lenses that have USM and some that have both

One Response to “What is the difference between IS and USM when referenced to Canon's EOS Lenses?”
