I want to buy a digital camera that's easy to handle but that also gives me a chance to play with the manual options, so not just a Point-and-shoot but not a Digital SLRs either…
I have 3 options:
Canon PowerShot SD900
Canon PowerShot A640 10MP Digital Camera with 4x Optical Zoom
Canon PowerShot SD900 Titanium 10MP Digital Elph Camera with 3x Optical Zoom

Which one do you think is the best? Do you have another option for me?

Thanks a lot!

First of all, there are only 2 options there, not three.
Secondly, the SD900 (which is the same as the SD900 Titanium), has no manual controls. A pretty good camera, but perhaps not what you're looking for.

If you don't mind having something that isn't quite so small, I'd go with the Canon A570IS or A710IS, which both have manual controls and image stabilization that the 640 doesn't have. But, with the 640 you get 10Mpix if that's important to you. It should only be important to you if you are either printing very large or doing a lot of cropping. there's a small edge in resolution, but it's not as much as you might think.

You might also consider the Canon G7. It offers more zoom and control. It would drive me nutz to have to go into a menu every time I wanted to change ISO.

  4. Morey's answer is correct. You are looking at 2 cameras. I own the SD900 and it does NOT have full manual control. You can trick it into doing what you want sometimes, but that's not what you are looking for. The A640 goes from full-auto to full-manual and everything in between, so this is the best choice from your list.

  7. I would suggest the canon A640, i love that camera, i have the 630, the model below it, so i know it is a very nice camera. The camera i would suggest the is not on your list is the Canon Powershot A630 (yes, i do have this one)

it has the same screen, but different colors than the 640 does. i like this one better because is has less megapixels, so you can take more pictures on the memory cards, check this site out to see for yourself.
